There is another tab under CommPort Setup called Test Comm Port. In the communication setup window I have selected Comm Port 4, which is where my device manager tells me my USB is connected. On Meade Autostar Suite, I have tried going on the tabs from Telescope - Communications - CommPort Setup. I've double checked that I am using the 6 pin to 6 pin cable and it is fitted correctly. The port settings are also correct (baud rate etc). Meade's USB to serial driver is installed (latest from Meade's site) and device status says the device is working properly. I have two USB ports, they are listed in the device manager as COM3 and COM4. However, it is recognised in the device manager. I don't know if this is a problem but I don't get any com ports popping up when I insert the USB cable (as you mentioned in your last reply). Justin (from light polluted Polegate, England) I have used other forums before and am well aware of the wealth of knowledge that's out there. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this e-mail. I'm no computer genius by any stretch of the imagination, so this is all very confusing and I would be really grateful if any of you higher beings might have an idea as to what I'm doing wrong. I'm wondering if maybe the software hasn't correctly installed (I use XP home) or, more likely, I'm doing something wrong!!! I then click OK in that window and get a further message saying, "Connect Error:ServerNotFound". Anyway, when I click the connect tab I get this message in a blue window, "Connect Error. DSI1 was the name given automatically by the driver when I loaded it in.

I have DSI1 typed into the white box (according to the manual, if I had a serial port I would type Com1 in this box). On Autostar Envisage under the telescope tab on the left hand side of the screen there is a connect tab which I click on. I have downloaded and installed the driver for the serial to USB cable from Meade's website.

I have plugged this in correctly (as far as I am aware), with the other end of the cable connected to the left most RS232 port on the telescope's control panel. I can get pictures on my PC via Autostar Envisage, so the DSI is fine, but I can't control the telescope through the software.įor starters my PC hasn't got a serial port, so I managed to get hold of a Meade serial to USB converter cable. However, I'm having problems connecting the telescope to my PC. After a long time saving (and the help of a credit card) I finally bought an 8" LX200R and a DSI II pro mono. I'm very new to astronomy and would appreciate anyone's help on a problem I've encountered.
